Dunphy Burdett Lawyers LLP is seeking a full time Law Clerk to join the firm’s real estate department in Stratford, Ontario. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation of legal documents required for the purchase, sale, and financing of real property, and for related communications with clients, law firms, and banks. Working closely with lawyers and clerks, the ideal candidate will be organized and efficient, will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and will be able to work both as part of a team and independently.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting lawyers in their real estate practice;

  • Preparing legal documents required for the completion of real estate transactions;

  • Corresponding internally with clerks and lawyers, and externally with clients, banks, clerks, and lawyers;

  • Scheduling appointments and managing lawyers’ calendars;

  • Managing and maintaining real estate files; and

  • General administrative duties including scanning, photocopying, filing, answering phones, banking, and other duties required from time to time in accordance with the firm’s work.

Qualifications include:

  • Graduate of a Law Clerk training program (preferred), or multiple years experience as a real estate law clerk;

  • An understanding of real estate transactions;

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills;

  • Proficiency in Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Adobe;

  • Knowledge of Teraview and Unity is an asset;

  • Experience preparing legal documents required for real estate transaction;

  • Ability to work in a group setting as well as independently; and

  • Commitment to discretion and confidentiality.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience as a real estate law clerk, though we encourage all applicants to apply as both fit and capacity to learn are equally valuable to the firm.

Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
