Dunphy Burdett Lawyers LLP is honoured to announce, with the deepest respect and admiration, the retirement of Gerald B. Burdett effective September 30, 2024.
Gerry began his practice in Stratford in 1975, having grown up in Stratford and attended the University of Western Ontario. Since being admitted to the Bar, Gerry has maintained a robust practice which has included work as a prosecutor, a criminal defence lawyer, and as a solicitor helping people with their corporate, real estate, and estate needs. He has worked with community service agencies and has worked with countless community members. He is universally adored by clients and colleagues.
Only on a very rare occasion has Gerry been out of the office, choosing his clients and their needs over his own. His retirement, while a loss to the community, is well-earned. Gerry will almost certainly be happy to have new-found time to enjoy sports, his cars, and his dog, Bear.
Gerry’s colleagues at Dunphy Burdett will miss having him at the office keeping us up to date on current events and sports, hiding the odd rubber snake in a drawer as an unsuspecting prank, and always being good for a story or two. More than that, we will all be mindful of the importance Gerry placed on personal and meaningful connections with clients and we will all strive to emulate his status as trusted advisor.
At Gerry’s request, there will be no formal event to mark his retirement. If you wish to send along a note of congratulations or thanks, you can send it in care of Gerry’s long-serving clerk, Brenda Nurse, who will thankfully be staying on with Dunphy Burdett. Brenda can be reached by email at brenda@dunphyburdett.ca, or by mail at the firm’s office (51 Albert Steet, Stratford, ON, N5A 3K2).
Please join us in wishing Gerry all the best and in thanking Gerry for his 49 years of service.
